Lake Louise and Extreme Knitting

Dear Lynette,

I know what you are all thinking, how the hell could knitting be extreme and what has it got to do with one of the most beautiful areas in the world?! Am I right?

Well....let me tell you knitting is not a safe past time by any means, especially in Canada!! Just check out my mates Luminea and Yas braving the cold, and thing ice to create some wonderful knitted master pieces!!

The day started with a glorious drive up and into the Rockies for a shopping spree in Banff, I love this shot of the morning light on the mountains!

Lake Louise in the winter, so different from the turquoise waters you see in the advertising campaigns for Canada don't you think?

The things you do for people you love, Luminea braves the thin ice to work on a scarf for her friends.....dedication

Not to be out done Yas also ventures onto the Lake to see what all the fuss was about...thin ice smish!

Now you've seen it all!!! How many people can say that not only have they skated on Lake Louise but they have done it with a pair of Addy's in the hand!!! (Addy's for those not familiar with knit speak are the Holy Grail of knitting needles.......I have my very own pair..."my precious.....").

OK so my first impressions of the Lake, its freaking huge!!! I was a little underwhelmed though as it was all frozen and yes (even though I knew it was winter) still had the images of the gorgeous turquoise waters with the Chateau in the background. That said see the Rockies rise up from out of the ice as it appears to me was breath taking. I loved it and I can't wait to go back!!

We were lucky enough to catch the tail end of the ice sculptures which were carved in January this year's theme was Fairy tails. Can you believe the talent of these people who carve the statues from giant slabs of ice? My fav is Thomas the Tank Engine and the Centaur and the Fairy in the tree.

I am also constantly blown away by the sheer and spontaneous beauty of a snowy winter. Below is what I like to call a Snow ribbon on a fence at the Chateau where the snow had formed on the fence and begun to melt an freeze again. I love it!!
I love Canada!!!

Love Telle
