Dear Lynette,
Just wanted to drop in and say a big hello! We had our extra scan and ECG to double check bubs foramen ovale (the little hole that allows the bub blood to by pass the lungs whilst in the womb). We had a bit of a scare at our 18week scan where they thought there might be an extra hole in bub's heart (an atrial septal defect). So we had to have some extra scans done with a paediatric cardiologist. All went well and the cardiologist was happy with bub's heart which was a relief for an anxious Mum and Dad to be. It also meant we got to spend 30minutes while the measurements were being taken listening to bub's heartbeat and it was a truly amazing thing to hear. (ok I have to admit I cried).
We have seen bub's, heard bubs, felt bubs and with the morning sickness and belly bump its hard to deny there is a little one growing inside my tummy, but it's all still a bit surreal. We hit 20 weeks this week which puts us at the half way mark, we also hit our 6 month anniversary for arriving in Calgary tomorrow. I can't believe how time has flown.
Now to the weather April 11th we had a record 23cms snow in the morning, followed on April 13th and 14th by a balmy 23 degrees.....you think spring has arrived right? WRONG!!!
Last week we got hit with a snow storm that lasted 2 days and dropped another 24+cms and its been snowing on and off ever since with our highest temps -5ish. I will post some pics of the snow building up on our balcony later.
All I can say Calgary weather really keeps you guessing! (I have been assured by more than one Calgarian that this is freaky weather for this time of the year...yeah right!).
Love Telle, James and our wee little Monster.

Baby Reid at 18 weeks
Dear Lynette,
Well our newest addition (in progress) had its second photo shoot last week so I thought I would put up some of the pics (note the gender neutral references! We know bub's sex but out of respect for a few people would like to have a surprise we aren't going to post it hear).
Bub's Face
Bubs Ankle
Bubs Arm
Mum at 15.5 weeks
Mum at 16.5 weeks
Mum at 18.5 weeks
All is going well for James and I at work. Both very busy with our projects and looking forward to moving into our new apartment at the end of the month and then heading to Disneyland and LA with Emmett and Aimee in May. We are then going to do our darnedest to get to Niagra and Toronto hopefully meeting up with Jessie there for the Canada Day long weekend (just before I am too far along to travel).
I have to say I am a bit over Calgary weather at the moment, we had a record 23cm of snowfall April 10th followed two days later by 23 degree weather on Sunday and then snow again Monday morning. Talk about keeping you guessing. I have taken to carrying my jacket with me just in case these days as you really do go from Spring to Winter in a matter of 40 minutes here.
For my wonderful knitting mates, I have finished the baby blanket for our new little niece Charlotte Isabelle who arrived a bit early on 2nd April!! CONGRATULATIONS go out to Dave and Simone on the arrival of their precious 5 pound bundle of joy!! (I can't wait to give her a cuddle at Christmas time). I am in the midst of sewing in the loose ends now and will wash and block it before sending it off to Charlotte asap. (I have to admit I am not particularly enthused with the sewing in the ends part, but no knitter likes that part right?). I have knitted my first we new born hat for our own little monster (who has been kicking me a bot tonight to let me know that he/she is in there). And I just started on a cute "Yoda" style cardigan for Bubba last night. James also found me an awesome pattern for a knitted Dalek for bubs too which I will attempt only when I block Charlotte's blanket!!
Oh it occurs to me I have some non baby pics from a a recent walk we took just before the Bowness River thawed out completely!! (Will have to take another walk by the river to show you what it looks like when the water is running!).
Bowness Lagoon
James all rugged up
My first snow angel
The ice bergs
James and Telle
Anyhows I am going to sign off and knit and watch all new Boston Legal, NCIS and Hell's Kitchen!!
Love you lot's and miss you heaps and heaps!!

New Additions
It's been awhile since I contributed to our blog, so I get to put the most important news of all up: we have a new addition to the family!
This is my new acer 5920, which I'm dual booting with Ubuntu and Vista (I know, but that's what it came with). Ubuntu is for work, vista for play. It's my first laptop with a dedicated graphics card, and now that I've sorted out the sound driver problem, it plays everything I wanted. For the tech geeks (3gb Ram, 250 gb hd, 1.6 ghz core 2 duo, 8600 gt 256mb).
Of course, I'm not the only one to get a new addition, This is what Chantelle got:
We like to refer to it as our little monster. It was a bit of a surprise, but one that we are both really happy about. It somewhat explains our paucity of post, we've been busy with other things.
We actually had our first ante-natal class at the weekend, which was a combination of informative and calculatedly terrifying. Basically a series of helpful hints, and generally pretty obvious don'ts and warning signs. Apart from that, we're doing the traditional activities, procuring clothes, taking photos, having stupidly large numbers of doctors appointments.
From here on in it just gets busier, more courses, more appointments, more wife (I kid). On the upside, the end of the first trimester means less of the downsides of pregnancy: morning sickness, moodswings, etc. We've also got the big scan coming up, which weans we'll be able to drop the neuter, and move the a more personal pronoun.
So that's us, Reid's plus 1:

Things not to do in Calgary
1. Walk to the bus stop with wet hair in -10 weather.........without a hat. In the 60 secs it took me to get there my hair froze, I kid you not!

Lake Louise and Extreme Knitting
Dear Lynette,
I know what you are all thinking, how the hell could knitting be extreme and what has it got to do with one of the most beautiful areas in the world?! Am I right?
Well....let me tell you knitting is not a safe past time by any means, especially in Canada!! Just check out my mates Luminea and Yas braving the cold, and thing ice to create some wonderful knitted master pieces!!
The day started with a glorious drive up and into the Rockies for a shopping spree in Banff, I love this shot of the morning light on the mountains!
Lake Louise in the winter, so different from the turquoise waters you see in the advertising campaigns for Canada don't you think?
The things you do for people you love, Luminea braves the thin ice to work on a scarf for her friends.....dedication
Not to be out done Yas also ventures onto the Lake to see what all the fuss was about...thin ice smish!
Now you've seen it all!!! How many people can say that not only have they skated on Lake Louise but they have done it with a pair of Addy's in the hand!!! (Addy's for those not familiar with knit speak are the Holy Grail of knitting needles.......I have my very own pair..."my precious.....").
OK so my first impressions of the Lake, its freaking huge!!! I was a little underwhelmed though as it was all frozen and yes (even though I knew it was winter) still had the images of the gorgeous turquoise waters with the Chateau in the background. That said see the Rockies rise up from out of the ice as it appears to me was breath taking. I loved it and I can't wait to go back!!
We were lucky enough to catch the tail end of the ice sculptures which were carved in January this year's theme was Fairy tails. Can you believe the talent of these people who carve the statues from giant slabs of ice? My fav is Thomas the Tank Engine and the Centaur and the Fairy in the tree.
I am also constantly blown away by the sheer and spontaneous beauty of a snowy winter. Below is what I like to call a Snow ribbon on a fence at the Chateau where the snow had formed on the fence and begun to melt an freeze again. I love it!!
I love Canada!!!
Love Telle

Banff and COP
Dear Lynette,
Well its been a busy couple of weeks for us here in Calgary. James and I were lucky enough to have a visit from James' Dad Piers for a week at the beginning of February. Along with a friendly face came Milo, Vegemite and Pineapple lumps.....essentials for Aussies and Kiwis alike!!!! (THANK YOU PIERS!!).
By all accounts Piers had a wonderful time with us here (and we definitely enjoyed having a familiar face around).
Not only did Piers get to experience a real Calgary Chinook wind he also got to experience the plunging temperatures that saw -30 with windchill on the 9th Feb. We decided to brave Canada Olympic Park (COP) that morning though I should let you know it was cold enough that they canceled all ski jumping events at COP that day!!
Piers and James atop the winners podium at COP.
Telle takes 1st place!!
The Main Street of Banff
Piers and James at Earl's for Lunch in Banff
James attacks the local cuisine.
Defeated
Banff and the Rockies
Telle gets friendly with the locals
Heading up the Banff Gondola
Telle on top of the Rockies
Piers and James on top of the Rockies
In front of the ice explorer
Leaving Banff.
This place is beautiful!!! It was so nice to get out of Calgary and have a look around!!

-40 windchill aka FARRRRK its cold
Dear Lynette,
just a short post to let you know that this week has been colder than anything we have ever experienced!!
On Monday we woke up to to -33 with a windchill that fluctuated between -48 and -50. It was unbelievably cold!! I can't begin to describe how odd it is to have a skin freeze warning, basically the amount of time it will take you to get frost bite on exposed skin. For Monday and Tuesday this week (28/29th January) it was 2minutes. I can also say that you know its cold when you are waiting for the bus and you can feel your snot freeze in your nose and have icicles on your eyelashes!!
I think James and I were both impressed however with how well the public transport coped with it all. Neither of use had to worry about our buses being late. Though we wisely waited to head to work late on Monday to give the roads time to settle a little and also in the hope that it would warm up a little (it didn't). Kudos to the bus drivers who have had to contend with a huge increase in traffic on the road as a result of people deciding to drive in and did it with a smile!!

Australia Day in Canada
Dear Lynette,
So we thought that we should show the Canadians how to celebrate your countries national day with style!!!
What does that entail you might ask when its -15 out and you don't own a bbq.....no problems. You bump up the thermostat to 30, roll out the flag, slap on the Aussie tatts, bing out the stubby holders, cue up the Australian Rock and put on an Aussie spread to make any Aussie proud!!
Welcome to our humble version of Down Under!
The North American labels for Tim Tams..appropriate really!
James Australian Pavs!!
Some of the Aussie spread.
Lamingtons yummo!
The Vege sangas!!!....drool!
Luminea not sure about the vegemite!
Fellow Aussie Yasmine does us proud...right down to the thongs!! (No my North American friends they are worn on your feet, not your bum).
Nothing like an Aussie day with snow!
Our Crew 1.
Our Crew 2
All in all it was a fantastic day/night!!! I hope we managed to show our multicultural melting pot of friends from Canada, America and Britain how it was done!!
